4 Best Paralegal Resume Examples and Templates for 2026

Every resume example is written and reviewed by our team of Certified Professional Resume Writers to ensure top-quality content and formatting.

Generative AI tools like CoCounsel and Lexis+ AI now draft memos, summarize depositions, and run first-pass document review. That has reset what managing attorneys expect a paralegal to bring. Employers are still hiring; the harder part is signaling, on page one, that you handle substantive case support across the litigation lifecycle.

Your resume should name the e-discovery and case management platforms you actually use, like Relativity, Clio, and iManage. It should also show Bluebook citation and CM/ECF e-filing fluency, and quantify cases supported, documents reviewed, and trials prepped.

The examples below span litigation, corporate, immigration, and IP work. They run from entry level to senior, so you can see how to frame the case support attorneys rely on.

Tip !

Hiring attorneys scan the first third of a paralegal resume for practice area, matter type, and e-discovery platform, because that combination shows whether you can carry billable work without a long ramp.

Why this resume works

  • Tied work to a real case outcome: The $6.2M settlement bullet shows the paralegal’s discovery work mattered to the result, not just the calendar.
  • Software named in context: Relativity, Everlaw, and Concordance show up tied to the actual task (review protocols, productions) instead of a tool list with no story.
  • Clear range of court systems: Naming EDNC, Wake County Business Court, and the NC Court of Appeals signals comfort across federal, state, and appellate filing rules.

Entry Level Example

Entry-level paralegals are recent associate or bachelor's grads, often with a paralegal certificate and an internship. The resume needs to prove substantive coursework, citation accuracy, and any clinic or pro bono case exposure.

Why this resume works

  • Internship work sounds like real paralegal work: Drafting petitions, filing in the state portal, and running intake are the same tasks the first job will require.
  • One clean number stands out: 60+ filings with zero rejections is the kind of small, specific metric an entry-level resume can honestly claim.
  • Education shows the right credential: An ABA-approved program plus a notary commission answers two screening questions law firms always ask.

Experienced Example

Experienced paralegals carry three to seven years inside a practice area and own discovery, filings, and client intake on active matters. The resume needs to prove matter volume, e-discovery platform fluency, and trial-prep deliverables.

Why this resume works

  • Deal sizes give the work real weight: Showing a $2M to $85M range tells a hiring partner what kind of complexity the candidate has actually handled.
  • Specialty tools match the practice area: Carta, Datasite, and EDGAR are the daily software for corporate paralegals, not generic legal tech.
  • One bullet shows initiative beyond tasks: The firm-wide SAFE conversion checklist shows the candidate built something other people use.

Senior Example

Senior paralegals run complex matters, train junior staff, and serve as the attorney's right hand on trials, closings, or filings. The resume needs to prove case ownership scope, billable-hour realization, and mentorship of associates and paralegals.

Why this resume works

  • Scope reads at senior level: 1.4M documents, 7 defendants, and $300M in exposure put this candidate clearly in complex-litigation territory.
  • Shows real leadership, not just tasks: Supervising paralegals, contract reviewers, and sitting on a tech committee signals work a senior paralegal should own.
  • Saved the firm money on a real line item: Cutting e-discovery hosting spend by 22% is the kind of business outcome partners notice in promotions and raises.

How to Write a Paralegal Resume

01 Open with what a credential lookup cannot show

A NALA or NFPA listing tells a managing attorney you passed a test. It does not tell them you ran discovery on a 14-defendant antitrust matter or filed in the Eastern District of Texas.

Lead the summary with the one combination another paralegal in the stack is unlikely to match. Name your practice area, the matter scale you’ve handled, and one platform: Relativity, iManage, Clio, or RelativityOne. Add a state bar e-filing system if you’ve used one.

This single line is what separates a resume that reads as substitutable from one that reads as specific.

02 Quantify matters, documents, and filings

Paralegal work has clean numbers, so bullets without them read as duties rather than results. Most strong resumes name three figures: matters supported, documents reviewed, and filings or depositions prepped.

Use ranges when exact counts are confidential. A bullet like “Supported 40-plus active litigation matters and reviewed 80,000 documents in Relativity across two MDL cases” reads stronger than “Assisted attorneys with discovery.” Recruiters scan for volume first because it signals the pace you can sustain. Add billable-hour realization if you tracked it, and trial or closing counts if you supported them end to end.

03 Group work by practice area and deliverable

Wall-of-bullets resumes lose the reader. Group your work into four buckets so an attorney can find what they need in one pass.

Use these categories: case management and discovery (Relativity coding, privilege logs, document productions); legal research and drafting (memos, motions, Bluebook cite-checking on Westlaw or Lexis); filings and court coordination (CM/ECF, state e-filing, service of process); and client and witness work (intake interviews, deposition prep, exhibit binders). Adjust labels for corporate, immigration, or transactional work. A corporate paralegal swaps discovery for entity formation, board minutes, and closing checklists.

04 Place credentials and tools on page one

Managing attorneys and law firm administrators need to verify three things before they read your bullets: paralegal certificate or degree, NALA or NFPA credential status, and e-discovery platform fluency.

Put a credentials block under your contact line: ABA-approved certificate, CP or PP designation, and the state if your work is state-specific. Add a tools line naming Relativity, iManage, Clio, Westlaw, Lexis, and CM/ECF. List the state and “in good standing” for any notary commission rather than the commission number.

This lets a recruiter clear the verification gate in seconds and move to your matter list.

05 Close with education and pro bono

Education sits at the bottom for experienced paralegals and near the top for anyone with under three years of work. Name your degree, your ABA-approved certificate program, and your GPA if it’s above 3.5.

Add a short pro bono or clinic block if you have one. Immigration clinic hours, Innocence Project research, or VLP intake work tells a firm you’ve handled real client files under supervision. Skip high school, skip unrelated jobs older than ten years, and skip a generic “references available” line.

Use the saved space to add a second matter example or a deposition count.

Must Have on a Paralegal Resume

Name the types of cases you handled and the documents you filed.

Niche Keywords for ATS Checkers

Managing attorneys and law firm administrators expect to see practice-area vocabulary in the summary and bullets, not just “paralegal” repeated. Group keywords by sub-niche so an ATS keyword parse can index your matter type.

Niche Keywords ATS scans for
Litigation paralegal e-discovery, Relativity, deposition prep, trial binder preparation
Corporate and transactional entity formation, closing checklists, board minutes, due diligence review
Immigration paralegal I-130 petitions, I-485 adjustment, RFE response drafting, USCIS filings
Legal research and drafting Westlaw, Lexis, Bluebook citation, motion drafting
Court filings and case management CM/ECF e-filing, Clio, iManage, service of process

AI Skills to Add

What managing attorneys expect on a paralegal resume has shifted. A blanket “no AI” stance now reads as untested on document-heavy matters; an honest workflow naming Harvey, CoCounsel, or Lexis+ AI and the human review steps reads as current.

What AI is actually changing for this role
First-pass document review

Generative AI now drafts initial relevance and privilege calls. Your value is the second pass, the edge cases, and the production decisions.

Deposition and transcript work

Tools summarize transcripts in minutes. Show that you verify quotes and citations against the source before any attorney sees the summary.

Legal research memos

Lexis+ AI and Westlaw Precision draft research starters. Your judgment on which cases are still good law is the hiring signal.

Contract review and abstracts

Corporate paralegals use AI to pull key terms from stacks of agreements. Name the abstract types and your accuracy-check process.

AI tools to name

  • Harvey or CoCounsel: Used for matter-specific research, draft memos, and document summaries inside large firm and in-house workflows.
  • Lexis+ AI or Westlaw Precision: Used for case law research, brief drafting starters, and citation verification across litigation and transactional work.
How to phrase AI on your resume
Do
  • Used CoCounsel for first-pass review of 40,000 documents, then verified privilege calls and produced final logs in Relativity.
  • Drafted research memos with Lexis+ AI and confirmed each cited case was good law in Shepard's before attorney review.
Skip
  • Leveraged AI-powered legal research to revolutionize discovery workflows.
  • Passionate about using cutting-edge AI tools to deliver next-generation paralegal services.

Paralegal Work Credentials That Get You the Job

Beyond an ABA-approved paralegal certificate, the credentials below tell managing attorneys which practice areas you can carry and which platforms you can run without training. Add a current status line if any credential expires.

  • NALA Certified Paralegal (CP): The most-requested general credential in litigation and corporate postings. Signals you've passed the NALA exam and meet continuing education requirements.
  • NFPA Registered Paralegal (RP) or PACE-Registered Paralegal: Strong signal for senior roles and federal-court practice. Carries weight at firms that prefer the NFPA track over NALA.
  • Relativity Certified Administrator or Relativity Certified User: Tells a litigation team you can run workspaces, not just code documents. Moves you ahead of paralegals who only list "Relativity" as a tool.
  • Notary Public commission (state-issued): Useful for transactional, immigration, and real estate paralegals.

Latest BLS Statistics for Paralegals

Paralegal is one of the larger occupations tracked by BLS, which means the median pulls in a long tail of entry-tier and general-office variants alongside AmLaw and in-house roles. The spread between the 10th and 90th percentile is wide because practice area, firm size, and metro market all move pay.

To position above the median, lead the resume with the practice area you own and the matter scale you’ve carried, not the years you’ve worked.

$61,010 National median annual
$66,510 National mean annual
$39,710 Entry-tier floor (10th percentile)

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I list my NALA or NFPA certification number on my resume?

No. List the credential name, the certifying body, and the year you earned it.

Add "current" or "in good standing" if you want to signal active status. Save the actual certification number for the application form or background-check packet, where it belongs.

How do I show matter experience without breaking client confidentiality?

Describe matters by type, scale, and forum rather than by client name. "Supported a 12-defendant securities class action in S.D.N.Y." reads as substantive and stays within bar ethics rules.

Use document counts, deposition counts, and filing counts to convey scale. If the matter is public record, you can name the case caption, but most firms prefer the anonymized version on a resume.

I'm moving from a legal assistant role to a paralegal role. How do I reframe?

Pull substantive work to the top and push administrative work down. Cite-checking, document review, drafting, and discovery support are paralegal work even if your title was legal assistant.

Lead bullets with those tasks and the platforms you used. Keep calendaring and travel booking as one short line at the bottom of the role, not as the headline duties.

Should I mention my use of generative AI tools like Harvey or CoCounsel?

Yes, if you've used them on real matters and the firm uses them too. Frame the tool as one step in a human-reviewed workflow: "Used CoCounsel to draft first-pass deposition summaries, then verified citations and quotes against the transcript before attorney review."

Skip vague claims like "AI-powered legal research" because they read as bait. Firms want to see judgment, not tool worship.

What resume template should a paralegal use?

Choose a professional template for the cases you handled. You could also pick an ATS-friendly template.
